The Strymon Magneto isn't your typical delay module — it's a complete vintage tape echo machine rebuilt from the ground up, with a looper, spring reverb, and modular CV playground built in. One of Strymon's most ambitious creations.
Inside, Strymon's engineers obsessed over every last attribute of a real tape echo machine and faithfully recreated it in DSP — the natural saturation and soft clipping of magnetic tape driven hard, the subtle pitch drift of mechanical wow and flutter, the degraded warmth of aged oxide tape, and the unpredictable grit of crinkled, damaged tape. Four independent playback heads with individually adjustable levels give you rhythmic and harmonic complexity that a single-head delay simply cannot achieve. A completely analog dry path keeps your unprocessed signal pristine — no conversion noise, no latency, just pure dynamic range.
At conservative settings it's a lush, warm stereo delay with an unmistakably organic feel. Push the Rec Level and the repeats fatten and saturate in exactly the way tape does — dense, musical, and alive. Dial in Tape Age and Crinkle and it unravels into something beautifully unpredictable. Engage the integrated spring reverb and the whole signal blooms into an enveloping, otherworldly soundscape. It also functions as a sound-on-sound looper, a phrase sampler, a self-oscillating chaotic oscillator, a pitch-shifting delay, and a phase-aligned clock multiplier — all from a single module.
